SOME FISHY STORIES FROM PAST SEASONS...

Dear Sir,
Whilst fishing the run above Kinbuck Bridge on Saturday 26th of October 2003, I hooked into a large salmon, after playing it for about 15 minutes Padraig from Dunblane duly netted it for me the fish was around 10lbs it took a size 14 purple shrimp pattern. This is the second fish I have caught after talking to Padraig, so it is my conclusion he must be some sort of lucky talisman.Getting back to the fish it was returned to the river unharmed...cheers again Padraig.
Mr Martin Bryce member 525.
Secretaries Comment: I think it is Padraig that needs a lucky talisman. He tells me he has had nothing this season. Better luck next year Padraig!!!

TROUT & CHIPS
Ronnie
Just thought you might like a wee angling tale for the next newsletter?
On Saturday 27th July 2002 I was fishing for trout on the BofA stretch , doing
quite well with dry flies. The water was low and I hooked and landed a large
fish in the area downstream of the weir
(a previous stocked fish, weighing 1.3/4lbs).

I spooned it and was surprised to find what looked like either
mushed up pellets, bread or similar in its stomach along with a few snails.
Unless this fish has been very recently stocked
(have there been any more stockings in the Allan recently?)
I was thinking this might have been a
trout taking advantage of the tourists' habit of feeding chips to the
seagulls at this location. Sounds odd, but the stomach contents looked like
nothing else I've seen and certainly resembled potato. It wouldnt surprise
me if this fish was supplementing its diet with chips - after all they resemble pellets.
Later that afternoon I switched to wet fly for a change and landed a sea/trout of 1.1/2lb and tested my 4-weight 8 foot rod to its limits by landing
a 4lb grilse, hooked in a streamy section. This certainly wasnt what I was
after with such light gear and it took about 15 minutes to bring to hand.
There were more than 20 adult sea lice still attached to the dorsal surface.

It was a great way to spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.
regards
Colin.

MEMBER 410. MR C.WALKER OF CUMBERNAULD TOLD ME OF A FISH HE HAD ON IN JUNE 2002..
IN ONE OF HIS FAVOURITE SPOTS WELL ABOVE KINBUCK BRIDGE..
IT WAS ABOUT TIME FOR MOVING FURTHER DOWN THE RIVER NEARER TO THE CAR AND HOME..WHEN HE LOOKED AT HIS WATCH THE TIME READ TWENTY MINUTES TO TWO IN THE AFTERNOON..
HE WAS FISHING FOR SEA/TROUT WITH A 5LB CAST OF TWO FLIES..HE HAD HIS LAST CAST BEFORE MOVING..
OVER A SMALL RIPPLED PART OF WATER. WHERE HIS FLY WAS IMMEDIATLY TAKEN..BY A LARGE FISH.
IT WAS SOME TIME LATER THAT THE FISH WAS SEEN BY MR WALKER AND WAS IDENTIFIED AS A SALMON OF AN ESTIMATED 12lbs + A SHINING BAR OF SILVER..
MR WALKER MAINTAINS THAT WHEN HE SAW THE FISH,THE FISH SAW HIM, AND TOOK OF IN A LAST DETERMINED BID FOR FREEDOM..SNAPPING THE CAST AT THE DROPPER IN THE PROCESS..
AFTER HIS FEW CHOICE WORDS, MR WALKER LOOKED AT HIS WATCH WHICH READ 3.15pm.
MR WALKER STATED THAT IT WAS A MEMORABLE BATTLE AND HAD MADE HIS SEASON..
THE FISH TOOK A SIZE 10 WICKAMS-FANCY WITH A GREEN TAG.

----------------------------------

ON TALKING TO BAILIFF JOHN KELLY.. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD A 'CRACKER' OF A SEA TROUT ON IN EARLY MAY 2002 ON THE RUN ABOVE THE BRIDGE.. AT BRIDGE of ALLAN.

JOHN IMMEDIATLY THOUGHT THAT HE HAD HOOKED INTO A GRILSE AS THE FISH FORGED UP THE RIVER BEFORE SHOWING ITSELF TO JOHN AND THE WATCHING GALLERY ON THE BRIDGE..

JOHN PLAYED THE FISH FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE MANAGING TO BRING IT TO FOOT..
HAVING NO NET TO HAND AS JOHN TRIED TO LIFT THE FISH THE OTHER HOOK SNAGGED AND THE FISH GAVE A FINAL SPLASH WITH ITS TAIL TO BID GOODBYE TO JOHN...

AT LEAST JOHN HAD WITNESSES TO HIS BATTLE WITH THE FISH...BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME JOHN! ! !

THIS REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER STORY CONCERNING THE PRESENT SECRETARY OF THE ASSOCIATION.

Fishing the run into the JOHNSON'S POOL below Kinbuck Village a few years ago,he was almost on his last cast of the run (fishing a two fly cast of Dunkeld and Teal-Blue&Silver on the point)when just as the flies swung round..
what could be described as an explosion on his line took place when this large sea/trout(A-bar of silver) sat up on its tail in all its glory..before taking off to the bottom of the pool and turning round and racing back up past the Secretary..who was trying to work out what to do with the line..
Finally the fish was under some kind of control..this is when reality hit home where's the net..100yds upriver of course..I dont know if the bemused fish thought whats this fool doing.. before it took another run right under a bush..
Where of course the dropper snagged and the worthy fish returned to freedom with a loud ping! !

Needless to say now the net never leaves my side when fishing for sea/trout.
